Single insulated electrical cable, 1.5 mm², on a 100 metre roll. General purpose low voltage wiring for automotive, marine and industrial work.
Most of the wiring in a conversion is not high voltage. Lights, sensors, switches, relay coils, instrument feeds and the dozens of small circuits that make a car work all run at 12 volts, and they need ordinary single insulated cable in sensible sizes.
1.5 mm² is the middle size and the one most looms use most of. It carries more than signal wiring needs without being unwieldy: lamp feeds, relay coils, switch supplies and the general run of accessory circuits. Where 1 mm² is for signals and 2.5 mm² is for loads, this is the size in between and usually the one you run out of first.
Size by current and by length, not by habit. Voltage drop is what usually decides automotive cable size rather than heating: a long run at 12 volts can lose enough voltage in the cable to dim a lamp or drop out a relay, even when the cable is nowhere near its thermal limit. For long runs, go up a size.
Key specifications
| Conductor size | 1.5 mm² |
|---|---|
| Insulation | Single PVC |
| Supplied | 100 m roll |
| Rated for | Low voltage DC systems |
Features
- Single insulation, so it takes minimal space in a loom
- The general purpose size most of a loom is built from
- 100 m roll, enough for a whole vehicle's accessory wiring
- Suits automotive, marine and general industrial use
Compatibility
For 12 V and 24 V vehicle circuits: lamp feeds, relay coils, switch supplies and accessory circuits.
This is low voltage cable. It is not rated for, and must never be used on, any circuit at pack potential. High voltage runs need double insulated, shielded, orange sheathed cable rated for the job.
The 1 mm² size suits signals and small lamps, and 2.5 mm² suits fans, pumps and contactor coils.
In the box
- 1 x 100 m roll, 1.5 mm² single insulated cable
