The orange high voltage connection cover for the rear motor on a Tesla Model S and X, part 1003783-00-B.
A drive unit's high voltage terminals need covering, and this is the part that does it. The cover keeps the three phase connections enclosed, keeps dirt and moisture off them, and stops anything conductive reaching them.
Orange is the convention, so the cover also marks the area as high voltage for anyone who opens the car or works around the drive unit later. On a conversion that will be serviced by someone who did not build it, that is not decoration.
It is commonly missing on a salvaged unit. Covers get removed to disconnect the motor and then do not travel with it.
