An electric vacuum pump for a brake servo, 3541100XJZ16A-UP28. It supplies the vacuum an engine used to provide, so the brake booster keeps working after a conversion.
Almost every petrol car takes its brake servo vacuum from the inlet manifold. Remove the engine and that supply goes with it. The servo does not fail into something harmless: the pedal simply goes hard, and the car needs far more pedal force to stop than the driver expects. Replacing the vacuum supply is part of making the brakes work, not a refinement.
Quiet running matters more in an electric car than it did in a petrol one. There is no engine noise to hide behind, so a pump that would have been inaudible before becomes the loudest thing in the cabin. This one is designed for the application rather than adapted to it.
Key specifications
| Part number | 3541100XJZ16A-UP28 |
|---|---|
| Type | Electric vacuum pump |
| Application | Brake booster vacuum supply |
| Suits | Electric and hybrid vehicles, EV conversions |
Features
- Restores brake servo assistance after an engine is removed
- Quiet in operation, which matters in a silent car
- Compact, so it can be mounted where the space allows
- Built for automotive service conditions
Compatibility
For conversions retaining a conventional vacuum brake servo, which is most petrol and diesel cars converted to electric drive.
A pump on its own is only part of the answer. A vacuum system also wants a reservoir to store vacuum between brake applications, a switch to run the pump only when the stored vacuum drops, a one way valve to hold it, and a relay so the switch never carries pump current. Without those the pump runs on nearly every brake application, which is noisy and wears it out. Our complete brake vacuum kit includes all of them.
Mount it on rubber isolators away from the cabin bulkhead. It is the noise path through the structure, not the pump itself, that people notice.
