12 Way PDU

A twelve way power distribution unit. One place where a vehicle's circuits are fed, fused and labelled instead of being spread through the loom.

A conversion adds a surprising number of new 12 volt circuits, and every one of them needs a feed, a fuse and somewhere sensible to start from. Done as individual inline fuses and spliced feeds, the result works and is then impossible to maintain: nobody can find a fuse, nobody knows which wire goes where, and the first fault takes an afternoon.

A PDU collects all of that into one place. Twelve circuits, one supply in, fuses in a known location, and a layout that can be written down. That is the difference between a loom somebody else can work on and one only you understand.

Plan the layout before you wire it. Decide which circuit is which way, label it, and keep a copy of that mapping with the vehicle. A PDU with unlabelled ways is only a slight improvement on inline fuses.

Compatibility

For 12 V and 24 V vehicle circuits. This is a low voltage distribution unit and must never be used for anything at pack potential.

Fuse to protect the cable, not the load. Each way should carry a fuse sized to the smallest conductor on that circuit.

Ask us for the per way and total current ratings, and the fuse type it takes, before designing it in. No datasheet is published here, and a twelve way unit has a total rating as well as a per way one: twelve circuits each fused at their maximum will usually exceed what the unit or its main feed can carry all at once.
