A sealed 50 A high voltage DC contactor with a 12 V coil, rated to switch up to 900 V DC. The part you use to make or break a high voltage circuit on command rather than by hand.
Switching DC is harder than switching AC, and that is what this part is for. Alternating current crosses zero a hundred times a second and any arc drawn on opening puts itself out. Direct current never crosses zero, so an arc drawn at high voltage will happily keep burning across separating contacts until something stops it. An ordinary relay asked to break a high voltage DC circuit does not fail gracefully: it welds, or it burns.
This one is gas sealed. The contacts run in a sealed atmosphere that quenches the arc as they part, which is what lets a compact device interrupt 900 V and keeps dust and moisture out of the contact chamber for its whole life.
The main contacts are polarised, so it matters which way round you wire it. Current is meant to flow one way through it, because the arc quenching works with the geometry rather than symmetrically. Fit it backwards and it will appear to work until the day it has to break a real fault.

Compatibility
For switching auxiliary high voltage loads: cabin heaters, coolant heaters, DC to DC converter feeds, charger circuits, and precharge duty.
50 A continuous is not a main pack contactor. The 250 A figure is a single cycle maximum, not a rating you can design to. For a traction circuit use a contactor rated for the job.
Observe the polarity of the main contacts and check the coil is being fed from a supply that will not sag, since a contactor that chatters is a contactor that welds.
