Tesla Drive Unit Drive Shaft Stumps (Pair)

A pair of driveshaft stumps for a Tesla drive unit, manufactured by Quaife, using a GKN tripod joint with a far more common spline than the Tesla original.

The spline is the whole product. A Tesla drive unit outputs onto a spline that almost nobody makes driveshafts for, which is the single biggest obstacle to putting one in another car. You cannot buy a shaft that fits, and getting one made means machining to an unusual spline.

These stumps change the problem into an ordinary one. They plug into the drive unit at the Tesla end and present a GKN tripod joint at the other, which is a common, well supported interface. From there any competent driveshaft shop can make you a pair of shafts to whatever length and angle your car needs, using parts they already stock.

Quaife manufactured, which for a part carrying full drive torque through an unusual interface is worth having.

Order the circlips with them. The stumps are retained in the differential by circlips, which are single use, and a build stops without them.

You will need circlips. They retain the stumps in the differential, they are single use, and they are sold separately.

Have the shafts made by someone who does this. Length, joint angle and plunge are what determine whether a driveshaft survives, and getting them wrong shows up as vibration or a joint that runs out of travel on suspension movement.
