An EV1XSQ315AJ high voltage fuse, 315 A, rated 453 V DC. A used part, tested and verified before sale.
A pack's main fuse is its last line of defence. When a short develops that the contactors cannot interrupt, the fuse is what ends it, and the DC voltage rating is what makes that possible: direct current has no zero crossing, so a fuse element that parts under DC has to quench an arc that would otherwise keep burning. A fuse rated only for AC opens and then continues to conduct.
This one is used. That is unusual for a protective device and it is worth being clear about what it means. It has been tested and verified, so it is a serviceable fuse rather than salvage of unknown condition. But a fuse that has been in service has carried current, and a fuse element's characteristics can shift after a lifetime of thermal cycling or a high current event it survived.
Where that is acceptable and where it is not. For a test bench, a prototype, a development pack or a non road application, a tested used fuse is sensible and cheap. For a vehicle that will carry people on the road, and for anything you are having inspected or approved, fit a new fuse. It is not the component to save money on in the thing that has to work once, perfectly, on the worst day.
Key specifications
| Manufacturer part | EV1XSQ315AJ |
|---|---|
| Rated current | 315 A |
| Rated voltage | 453 V DC |
| Condition | Used, tested and verified |
| Weight | 1 kg |
Features
- Rated for DC, which an ordinary fuse is not
- 315 A, suiting a mid sized traction pack
- Tested and verified rather than sold as untested salvage
- A low cost option for bench, prototype and development work
Compatibility
For high voltage DC circuits up to 453 V. Check your pack's maximum voltage, at the top of a charge rather than nominal, against that figure. A fuse operated above its voltage rating may not clear the arc.
Consider a new fuse for a road vehicle. See the note above. This is the right part for development work and the wrong economy on a car carrying passengers.
Size it to the circuit. A 315 A fuse protects a 315 A circuit. If your cable is smaller than that, the cable becomes the fuse.
