An M6 by 20 mm grub screw with a Torx drive and a flat point, in stainless steel.

Fasteners in a high voltage build are not generic hardware. A bolt through a busbar carries current. A bolt into an enclosure holds a seal. A bolt into a mount takes drive torque. In each case the wrong material, the wrong head or the wrong length is a fault that only shows up later, and usually somewhere awkward to reach.

A grub screw sets a position rather than clamping a joint. It threads all the way into its hole with no head above the surface, so it locates or retains something without adding height or catching on anything. The flat point bears on a flat surface without digging in, which is what you want when the part it holds may need to be adjusted or removed again rather than permanently marked.

Torque matters more than tightness. A grub screw is easy to over tighten because there is no head to feel against the surface. Set it to the position you want, then tighten to hold rather than to deform.

Features

  • No head above the surface, so nothing protrudes or catches
  • Flat point, which bears without digging into the surface underneath
  • Torx drive, which is far less prone to camming out than a hex socket at this size
  • Stainless, for corrosion resistance in an engine bay or underfloor position

Compatibility

For M6 tapped holes where a fastener must sit flush or below the surface: collars, locating features and retention where a bolt head would be in the way.

Check the length against your stack before ordering. A bolt that bottoms out in a blind hole feels tight while clamping nothing, and one that is too short engages too few threads to hold. Count the thickness of everything the bolt passes through, plus the depth it needs in the thread.

In the box

  • 1 x M6 x 20 mm grub screw
