A GIGAVAC GV200 hermetically sealed contactor: 500 A continuous, 12 to 800 V DC, with peak handling to 4000 A. The contactor specified for Hyper Drive SME controllers.
Breaking DC at pack voltage is what this part is for. Alternating current crosses zero a hundred times a second and any arc drawn on opening extinguishes itself. Direct current never does, so an arc struck at 800 V keeps burning across separating contacts until something puts it out. An ordinary relay in this position welds, and a welded main contactor means a pack that can no longer isolate itself, which is the worst failure a high voltage system can have.
The 4000 A peak figure is what makes it right for an inverter. A traction inverter's DC link is a large capacitor, and even with a precharge circuit doing its job there are fault conditions where enormous currents appear briefly. A contactor rated only for its continuous figure is at its limit in exactly those moments. This one has margin.
Hermetically sealed means the contacts live in a controlled atmosphere that quenches the arc as they part and that nothing ever gets into, which is why its performance does not drift over the years.

Compatibility
For EV traction packs, particularly systems using the Hyper Drive SME X1 controller, and for energy storage and industrial DC up to 800 V.
Do not close it onto an empty DC link. Even a contactor this good is damaged by an unlimited inrush. Use a precharge resistor and a contactor controller.
