The Hyper Drive SME AC-X144 controller and inverter, the high voltage member of the SME range, matched to the Hyper 9 motor platform.
The controller is what turns a motor into a drivetrain. A permanent magnet motor cannot turn at all without something reading rotor position and energising the windings in sequence, and how well that is done determines efficiency, smoothness, off throttle behaviour and what happens under regenerative braking. The motor produces the torque; the controller decides all of it.
Field oriented control is what suits it to an SRIPM motor. An SRIPM machine makes torque two ways at once, from the magnets and from reluctance, and getting both together requires the controller to know exactly where the rotor is and to shape the current accordingly. A generic controller will turn the motor; one with an FOC algorithm tuned for SRIPM is what gets the efficiency the motor is capable of.
Higher pack voltage is the reason to choose this over the AC-X1. At 120 to 144 V DC with up to 500 amps peak, it delivers more power for the same current, which means smaller cables, smaller contactors and less heat everywhere in the system.
It is built for a vehicle rather than a workshop. Sealed against dust, water and vibration, with flexible cooling options so it suits the space available rather than dictating it.

Compatibility
For the NetGain Hyper 9 motor platform on a 120 to 144 V pack.
Check your pack voltage against the input range at both ends. A pack that sags below 120 V under hard acceleration or rises above 144 V at the top of a charge is outside this controller's window. For a standard voltage pack, the AC-X1 controller is the other option.
It needs a contactor and a precharge circuit. Closing a main contactor directly onto a controller's DC link welds the contactor. That is not optional equipment.
Plan the cooling. An inverter's limit is heat rather than current, and one that is not cooled will throttle back on temperature exactly when you are asking most of it. Our SME controller coolant plate fits this controller.
