Buying a motor and a controller separately is where conversions go wrong. The two have to agree on voltage, current, the resolver interface, the cooling arrangement and the control strategy, and a motor that works and a controller that works do not automatically make a drivetrain that works. A matched kit removes every one of those decisions.
The Hyper 9 is a synchronous reluctance internal permanent magnet motor, which is a mouthful for a design that combines two ways of producing torque. It gets efficiency and a wide constant power band from the reluctance side and torque density from the magnets, which is why it has become one of the standard choices for light and medium weight conversions rather than a specialist option.
The AC-X1 is the standard voltage controller, paired here with the 100 V motor. If your pack is in the higher voltage range, the HV version of this kit with the AC-X144 controller is the one to look at: higher pack voltage means lower current for the same power, and therefore smaller cables, smaller contactors and less heat.
It is configured from a laptop through SmartView, so torque, regeneration and pedal response are calibrated to the vehicle rather than fixed.

Compatibility
For light to mid weight vehicle conversions running a standard voltage pack.
You will also need an adaptor plate and a coupling to join the motor to your gearbox. We make plates for common applications, including the air cooled VW Beetle transaxle, and the Hyper 9 motor cradle is the matching mount.
For a high voltage pack, the HV kit with the AC-X144 controller is the alternative.
Talk to us before ordering. At this price, and with the rest of the build depending on it, confirming the vehicle, the target pack voltage and the gearbox first is worth doing.
