The Quaife ATB helical limited slip differential for the Tesla large drive unit, as used in the Model S and Model X. The QDH2T replaces the standard open differential inside the unit and is the traction upgrade we fit as standard to the drive units we rebuild.
An open differential sends torque to whichever wheel has least grip, which on a converted vehicle with a Tesla drive unit means one wheel spinning while the other does nothing useful. The Quaife ATB biases torque continuously towards the wheel that still has grip, and it does it on helical gears rather than clutch plates, so it never locks and there is no pre-load to set. Nothing inside it wears in service: it runs on the drive unit's own oil, needs no maintenance schedule of its own, and works with electronic traction and stability control rather than fighting it.

Features
- Torque goes to the wheel with grip instead of the one that is spinning, which is what makes a heavy conversion usable on a loose or wet surface
- Never locks. The action is progressive and silent, including at parking speeds, with none of the snatch of a plate type LSD
- Gear operated, so there are no clutch packs, ramps or springs to wear out and nothing to replace at intervals
- Runs on the drive unit's standard oil and keeps its normal maintenance schedule
- Works alongside electronic traction and stability control rather than confusing it
- Direct replacement for the factory open differential, with no machining of the housing
- Held in stock here, which matters on a part the factory quotes in months rather than days
- Backed by Quaife's lifetime warranty, for motorsport as well as road use
Compatibility
Fits the Tesla large drive unit. The unit has to be split to fit it, so most builds deal with everything inside the casing in the same strip. The common companions are the 4.1:1 reduction gearset for a conversion running prop shafts, a reverse drive oil pump, fresh output shaft seals and a pair of Defender prop shaft stumps if the vehicle uses a conventional driveline.
For the smaller Tesla units we stock the Quaife QDH7T for the Model 3 rear drive unit and the QDH3T for the small drive unit.
In the box
- 1 x Quaife QDH2T ATB differential
The differential only. Crown wheel bolts, bearings and seals are not included, so reuse the originals or order them separately.
