Four ports, which is a different job from the three way. It can connect two separate circuits to each other in more than one arrangement, rather than simply diverting one flow. That is what lets a battery loop and a drive loop be joined to share heat, then separated again.

A 4 way coolant valve controlled over LIN bus. It switches coolant between circuits on command from the vehicle, rather than being plumbed one way and left.

Thermal management is the difference between a pack that lasts and one that does not, and it is rarely a single fixed circuit. A battery wants to be warmed when cold and cooled when hot. A motor and inverter want cooling all the time. A cabin heater wants heat from wherever there is some. Those demands conflict, and they change minute by minute.

A multi way valve is how a modern EV resolves that. Instead of separate loops each with their own pump and radiator, one valve redirects flow between circuits: battery to radiator when it needs cooling, battery to motor loop to scavenge waste heat when it needs warming, bypass when it needs neither. It is the component that turns several fixed loops into one system the vehicle can actually manage.

LIN is the right bus for this. It is a single wire, low speed automotive network meant exactly for slow actuators like valves, mirrors and blower flaps. It costs almost nothing in wiring and leaves your CAN bus free for the traffic that matters.

You will need to talk to it before you can use it. A LIN device needs its frame IDs and its message format to be known, and that is not something you can work out by probing. Contact us for the LIN specification for this valve before you design it into a system, because without it the valve is plumbing you cannot command.

Features

  • Redirects coolant between circuits under vehicle control, instead of fixed plumbing
  • LIN bus control, which costs one wire and leaves CAN free
  • 4 way porting, for switching between two circuits, or feeding two from one source
  • Automotive actuator, built for continuous thermal cycling

Compatibility

For EV thermal management systems where coolant has to be routed between a battery loop, a drive loop, a radiator and a heater under control.

You need a LIN master. The valve does not move on its own or default to a useful position. Something in the vehicle has to command it, which means a controller with a LIN interface and the valve's message specification.

The 3 way version is the same idea with one fewer port, for a simpler diversion between two paths.

Ask us for the LIN specification and the port arrangement before committing to a plumbing layout. Neither is published here, and both determine how the valve can be used.

In the box
