The Orion BMS 2 in its 72 cell version: the battery management unit itself, for a pack of up to 72 cells in series. This is the controller on its own, not the full kit.
A lithium pack without management is a pack waiting to fail. Cells drift apart in voltage, one of them reaches a limit before the others, and from that point the whole pack is governed by its weakest member. The Orion BMS 2 watches every cell individually, balances them, measures pack current through a hall effect sensor, tracks temperature through thermistors, and reports all of it over CAN so the charger, the inverter and the vehicle controller are working from the same numbers rather than their own assumptions.
This listing is the BMS unit by itself. A working installation also needs a current sensor, cell tap harnesses, the main I/O harness and thermistors. If you do not already have those, the 72 cell kit bundles them and is the simpler thing to buy. Choose this bare unit when you are replacing a controller, or when you already hold the harnesses and sensor.

Features

Compatibility
For packs of up to 72 cells in series. Count cell groups, not cells: a pack of parallel groups counts as one cell per group. Larger packs need the 96, 108, 120, 144 or 180 cell versions.
You will also need, if you do not already have them: a current sensor sized for your pack, cell tap harnesses to reach every cell group, the main I/O harness, and thermistors. The kit version includes them.
Configuration is done over CAN from a laptop, which needs a compatible CAN interface.
