A formed copper busbar that links two stacked Tesla modules, running from the negative terminal of one to the positive of the next. Solid copper, nickel plated, with an orange high voltage coating, and shaped so the two ends land where the terminals actually are.

Stacking Tesla modules puts the terminals in alternating positions, so a pack needs two mirrored busbars and uses them in turn up the stack. This is the negative to positive part, and its mirror is the positive to negative. Most builds order both, which is why they usually appear on the same order. Using solid copper rather than braid matters here: at pack currents the joint resistance is what heats up, and a 30 by 3 mm copper section bolted flat to the terminal has far less of it than a flexible link. The nickel plating keeps that joint clean over years rather than letting it oxidise under the bolt.

Features

  • Solid copper section rather than braid, so the bolted joint runs cooler at pack current
  • Nickel plated, which keeps the contact face clean under the bolt instead of oxidising over the years
  • Orange high voltage coating, so the link is insulated and obviously live to anyone working in the pack
  • Formed to land on the terminals of stacked modules at 10 to 15 mm spacing, with no bending on the bench
  • A drawing and a STEP model are published, so the pack can be laid out before anything is ordered

Compatibility

For stacked Tesla modules at 10 to 15 mm spacing. Because the terminals alternate as the stack builds up, most packs need this busbar and its mirror, the positive to negative version, in roughly equal numbers. Where the run has to turn, the right angle busbar does that job.

Packs using these usually also want a coolant manifold to feed the module stack and a pressure relief vent in the enclosure.

In the box

  • 1 x busbar

Terminal hardware is not included.
