A 3.54:1 reduction gearset for the Tesla Model 3 rear drive unit. It replaces the standard gears inside the unit so that a given motor speed produces a much higher output speed, which is what most conversions need once the drive unit is no longer turning a Model 3's own wheels.
The standard Model 3 reduction is chosen for a car that puts its power straight through short driveshafts. Move that drive unit into the middle of a converted vehicle, drive a prop shaft at each end and add a live axle with its own final drive, and the standard ratio runs out of road speed long before the motor runs out of revs. This gearset lowers the reduction so the motor and the axle work together instead of against each other. It is the ratio we fit most often in Land Rover, Ford Bronco and Toyota Land Cruiser conversions, and in any build chasing a high top speed.

Features
- Raises output speed for a given motor speed, so the build reaches a usable top speed without spinning the motor to its limit
- Suits a centrally mounted drive unit driving prop shafts at both ends, the usual layout in a 4x4 conversion
- Proven in Land Rover, Ford Bronco and Toyota Land Cruiser builds
- Cut from hardened alloy steel to our own specification
- Supplied with our 16 page replacement procedure, written by the workshop that fits them
- Expect a little more gear noise than standard, particularly when coasting or under light load. That is normal for a ratio change of this size and not a fault
Compatibility
Fits the Tesla Model 3 rear drive unit. Most customers fit it at the same time as the Quaife QDH7T limited slip differential, because both live inside the same casing and doing them together saves a second strip.
Fitting is a workshop job, not a bolt on. You will need a 30 tonne hydraulic press, Tesla E12 and E14 sockets, an impact gun and a way of lifting the unit, plus a fresh oil filter and oil. One point catches people out: check for a shim ring in the housing under the differential, as it sometimes lifts out stuck to the bearing. Not every unit has one, but if yours does it must go back in.
In the box
- 1 x Tesla Model 3 rear drive unit reduction gearset, 3.54:1
The gearset only. The oil filter, drive unit oil and any shim ring your unit uses are not included.
