Machined stumps that let a Land Rover Defender propshaft joint bolt straight to a Tesla drive unit output. We designed and produce these ourselves, and they are supplied as a pair with circlips, which is what one drive unit needs.
A Tesla drive unit is built to drive short driveshafts into its own hubs, so the moment it goes into a converted vehicle with a propshaft at each end there is nothing sensible to bolt to. The usual answer is a bespoke propshaft, made to fit and expensive to change. These stumps solve it from the other end: each one replaces the Tesla output stub and presents the pattern the original Defender joint already bolts to, using the original 3/8 inch bolts. The propshafts stay standard Land Rover parts, and a replacement is an off the shelf item rather than a special order.

Features
- Keeps the original Defender joint and its original bolts, so the propshafts stay standard parts you can replace anywhere
- Machined from 42CrMo, the alloy steel normally used for drivetrain parts that see shock loading
- Sold as a pair with circlips, so one order fits one drive unit with nothing missing
- Fits both the large drive unit and the small rear unit, which covers most Tesla based conversions
- Our own design, made and stocked here rather than sourced in, so availability does not depend on anyone else
Compatibility
Fits the Tesla large drive unit and the small rear drive unit directly. They can also be used on a Model 3 drive unit, but that combination needs the drive shaft seal changed at the same time, so order a pair of LDU / SDU drive shaft output seals with them.
Most builds fitting these are inside the drive unit anyway, which is the moment to deal with a limited slip differential and a reduction gearset rather than opening it twice.
For Porsche 930, 964, 993 and VW joints we make the equivalent 108 stumps, also sold as a pair.
In the box
- 2 x Tesla to Defender drive shaft stump
- Circlips
Bolts are not included, because the fitment reuses the original joint bolts.
