A SPAL 190 mm radiator fan in pull configuration, moving 620 cubic metres an hour on 12 volts. Sealed to IP68 with a three year warranty.

An electric conversion still needs a radiator, and it needs airflow through it when the car is not moving. A battery loop or a motor loop rejects heat exactly when the vehicle is working hardest, which includes sitting in traffic with no ram air at all. Without a fan the cooling system works at speed and fails in a queue.

Pull is the configuration to use where you can. A fan mounted behind the radiator drawing air through it gives more even flow across the whole core than one pushing from the front, and it does not block the core when the car is moving fast enough not to need it.

IP68 matters on a part mounted at the front of a car, where it sees road spray, salt and standing water directly.

Features

  • SPAL, the reference manufacturer for automotive cooling fans
  • 620 m³ per hour from a 190 mm fan, which suits a compact conversion radiator
  • IP68 sealed for a front mounted position
  • Draws 4.4 to 5.3 A, so it can be switched by an ordinary automotive relay
  • 36 month warranty, and manufactured to ISO 9001, ISO TS 16949 and ISO 14001

Compatibility

For conversion radiators and coolant loops up to roughly this fan's airflow. Check the fan against your radiator core: a 190 mm fan on a much larger core leaves the corners unswept and the cooling is worse than the numbers suggest.

Switch it through a relay, not directly. At up to 5.3 A continuous it should not run through a dashboard switch or a controller output, and it should be fused.

Control it from coolant temperature. A fan wired to run whenever the car is on wastes energy and wears out; one driven from a thermostat or from your BMS or controller runs when it is needed.

In the box

  • 1 x SPAL 190 mm pull fan
