Two quite different people buy this kit. The first has a Model 3 with a split boot, which if it is caught early means a joint kit rather than a driveshaft. The second is building a conversion and needs the stump, because a Tesla drive unit output has to meet a driveshaft that Tesla never made, and this is the OEM part that mates to the drive unit at one end and can be adapted at the other.

Replace a boot as soon as it splits. A tripod joint runs happily for the life of the car while it stays packed with grease and sealed. Once grit gets in, the rollers and the housing wear quickly, and what would have been a boot kit becomes a driveshaft. The kit includes the joint precisely because by the time most people look, the joint has already suffered.

Assembly needs care. Pack the joint with the grease supplied, seat the boot squarely, and fit both clips. A boot that is fitted twisted or under tension will split again.
