Almost every petrol car takes the vacuum for its brake servo from the inlet manifold. Remove the engine and that vacuum goes with it. The servo does not fail safe into something harmless: the pedal simply goes hard, and the car needs a great deal more pedal force to stop than the driver expects. Replacing that vacuum supply is not an optional refinement on a conversion, it is part of making the brakes work.
Why there is a reservoir, and why it matters. A pump on its own has to start every time the servo takes a breath, which means it runs on almost every brake application. That is noisy, and it wears the pump out. The reservoir stores vacuum between applications, so the pump runs in occasional short bursts to top it up instead of cycling constantly. The vacuum switch is what makes that work: it watches the stored vacuum and starts the pump only when it drops below the set point.
It also buys you braking with the pump stopped. A charged reservoir holds enough vacuum for several assisted stops on its own, so a blown fuse or a failed pump does not take your servo assistance away in the same instant.

Compatibility
Suits any conversion keeping a conventional vacuum brake servo, which is most petrol and diesel cars converted to electric drive. If your car has a servo with a hose to the inlet manifold, this kit replaces that supply.
It is not for vehicles with a hydraulic brake booster, an electrically boosted brake system, or no servo at all.
Crimp terminals are not included. The parts list calls for them and you will need to supply your own to suit your loom.
Mount the pump on rubber isolators away from the cabin bulkhead. It is the noise path, not the pump itself, that people notice.
