An M8 by 16 mm countersunk socket bolt in stainless steel.

Fasteners in a high voltage build are not generic hardware. A bolt through a busbar carries current. A bolt into an enclosure holds a seal. A bolt into a mount takes drive torque. In each case the wrong material, the wrong head or the wrong length is a fault that only shows up later, and usually somewhere awkward to reach.

A countersunk bolt finishes flush with the surface, which matters wherever something has to slide past, sit against, or seal over the fastener. It also centres itself in a matching countersink, so the parts locate to each other as the bolt is tightened rather than being free to shift.

Torque matters more than tightness. A countersunk head generates outward force on the material around it as it pulls in. Over tighten it in thin or soft material and it will distort the countersink or split the part rather than gripping harder.

Compatibility

For M8 fixings that must finish flush: cover plates, sealing faces, sliding surfaces and anywhere clearance above the fastener is limited. The hole must be countersunk to match.

Check the length against your stack before ordering. A bolt that bottoms out in a blind hole feels tight while clamping nothing, and one that is too short engages too few threads to hold. Count the thickness of everything the bolt passes through, plus the depth it needs in the thread.
