HK-H-H66-25 Charger 1.8kw 66V 25A

The smallest pack in the HK-H range. Eighteen to 66 V at 25 A, which is a 48 V nominal system: a light vehicle, a utility machine or a small stationary bank.

An onboard battery charger, 1.8 kW, for pack voltages from 18 to 66 volts, delivering up to 25 amps. Fan cooled and sealed to IP67.

An onboard charger is what lets a vehicle be charged from an ordinary supply rather than from a bench power supply in a workshop. It takes mains AC in and produces the controlled DC a lithium pack needs, following a charge profile rather than simply pushing current at it.

Match the charger to the pack, not to the nominal voltage. The figure that matters is the output range: this one covers 18 to 66 volts, and your pack has to sit inside that at both ends. A pack that rises above 66 volts at the top of a charge is outside this charger's range even if its nominal voltage looks comfortable. This one is the 48 V nominal model, which suits 48 V lithium systems.

CAN control is what makes it work with a BMS. The charger can be configured over CAN at 250 or 500 kbit/s, and more importantly it can be told what to do while charging. A BMS that can command the charger to reduce current or stop is the difference between a pack that is protected and one that relies on the charger's own profile being right.

IP67 and fan cooled means it can be mounted where there is airflow without needing to be inside the cabin, and it does not need plumbing into the coolant system.

Other models in this range cover other pack voltages. The HK-H series covers 66 V, 99 V and 132 V nominal at 1.8 kW. If your pack is larger, the HK-MF series runs to 144 V nominal at higher power.

Check the charge profile matches your chemistry. A charger configured for one lithium chemistry will not charge another correctly, and getting that wrong damages cells rather than simply charging slowly. Tell us your cell chemistry and pack configuration and we will confirm the configuration before you order.

It needs a BMS. A charger following a profile with nothing watching the individual cells is charging blind.
