A complete electric powertrain: the Inetic iEV180 motor, an A4001 motor drive, and an AEM VCU 275 vehicle control unit, supplied as a matched system.
The three parts have to agree with each other, and that is the whole argument for a kit. The drive has to know the motor's resolver, its magnet arrangement and its thermal limits. The VCU has to speak to the drive and to the rest of the car. A motor that works, a drive that works and a VCU that works do not automatically make a drivetrain, and the integration is where conversions lose months.
The VCU is what makes it a vehicle rather than a motor test rig. It handles the pedal, the direction selector, the drive modes, the interlocks and the communication with the BMS and the charger. Without one you have a drive that will spin a motor when told; with one you have a car that behaves the way a car behaves.
It is programmable, which is the reason people choose AEM. Torque curves, torque limits, regenerative braking, pedal mapping and drive mode switching are all calibrated rather than fixed, so the same hardware suits a light classic and a heavier vehicle by changing the calibration rather than the parts.
It is a powertrain, not a car. You will still need a pack, a BMS, a charger, a DC to DC converter, a cooling system, a mounting arrangement and a gearbox or reduction. This is the part in the middle.
Key specifications
| Part | IEV180-4U-WN200-KIT |
|---|---|
| Motor | Inetic iEV180, WN200 variant |
| Drive | A4001 motor drive |
| Vehicle control unit | AEM VCU 275 |
| Calibration | Programmable torque, regeneration, pedal mapping and drive modes |
Features
- Motor, drive and VCU matched as one system, so the integration work is already done
- AEM VCU 275, which handles pedal, selector, drive modes, interlocks and BMS communication
- Fully programmable calibration, so the same hardware suits different vehicles
- Well documented, with drawings and 3D models published for all three components
Compatibility
For vehicle conversions needing a complete, calibratable powertrain rather than individual components.
This is the WN200 variant. The WN150 variant is the alternative, and the two differ in winding, which changes the torque and speed characteristic for the same physical motor. Tell us the vehicle, its weight and what you want it to do, and we will confirm which variant suits before you order.
Commissioning is part of the build. A programmable powertrain has to be calibrated to the vehicle, and that is engineering work rather than a setting to choose. Budget time for it.
Talk to us before ordering. At this price, and with the rest of the build depending on it, confirming the application first is worth doing.
In the box

Drawings and 3D CAD models in STEP format for the motor, the drive and the VCU are in the Documents tab. This kit is better documented than most, so read them before planning a mounting arrangement.
