A genuine LG Energy Solution E78 battery module, 44 volts nominal and 6.85 kWh, as fitted to the Volkswagen MEB platform. Twenty four pouch cells in a 12S2P arrangement inside a cast aluminium housing.

These are current generation automotive modules, not salvaged cells rebuilt into a case. They come from LG's Wroclaw plant in Poland, they carry UN38.3 transport certification, and their provenance is documented, which is what makes them usable on a project that has to satisfy an engineer, an insurer or an IVA inspector.

The format is what makes them easy to build with. The cast end frames carry the mounting points and the threaded terminal blocks, so the module is a structural part of your pack rather than something that needs a cradle built around it. A low voltage connector on the module brings out the cell voltage taps and temperature sensing for your BMS, so you are not fabricating a sense harness.

Series strings work out neatly. Two modules give an 88 V system, eight give a 350 V class pack, twelve give a 400 V class pack. At 6.85 kWh each, a twelve module string is an 82 kWh pack in a shape most conversions can actually package.

Compatibility

For classic and specialist EV conversions, marine electrification, motorsport, off grid and commercial storage, and prototype or low volume vehicle work where automotive grade cells and documented provenance are essential.

This module has no protection of its own. It is supplied as a component for professional integration and must be used with a BMS that monitors every cell group voltage and the module temperature. High voltage battery systems should only be designed, assembled and installed by suitably trained and competent people.

For sustained high power, plan the cooling. The module is designed to shed heat through its base onto a cold plate. Light duty cycles may not need it. Fast charging and hard discharge do.
