The small Orion BMS, supplied as a working kit. The Junior 2 manages packs of up to 16 cells in series at up to 48 V nominal, and comes with the cell tap harness, the pre-wired main I/O harness, the current sensor and its adaptor, so the pack can be wired without sourcing the parts separately.
Not every pack needs a 180 cell BMS. A 48 V system in a boat, a utility vehicle, a machine or an auxiliary pack still needs every cell watched, balanced and protected, and it still needs a charge and discharge limit the charger and controller will respect. The Junior 2 does that job in a centralised unit with high noise immunity, reports over CAN 2.0B, and is programmed and diagnosed over RS-232 from a laptop. It measures each cell to 0.1 mV and balances passively to within 5 mV, which is the same measurement quality as its larger siblings in a package sized for a smaller pack.

Features
- Supplied as a working kit rather than a bare controller, so the harnesses and sensor are not a separate hunt
- Measures each cell to 0.1 mV and balances to within 5 mV, the same measurement quality as the larger Orion units
- Calculates state of charge and publishes charge and discharge current limits, so the charger and controller work to real pack limits
- Centralised design for high EMI and noise immunity, which matters in a vehicle or a machine
- CAN 2.0B with OBD2 support, and full programming and diagnostics over RS-232 from a laptop
- Rated from minus 40 to plus 80 degrees, so it can live where the pack lives
Compatibility
This is the 16 cell unit, so it suits packs up to 48 V nominal and 60 V maximum. Above that, use the full Orion BMS 2, which covers 24 to 180 cells.
Choose the current sensor to match the highest current the pack will see, including peaks rather than the continuous figure. All four ratings cost the same.
Two things this kit does not include. A CAN adaptor is needed to configure the BMS from a laptop, and thermistors for pack temperature sensing are ordered separately.
In the box
- 1 x Orion Junior 2 BMS
- 1 x 16 cell tap harness, 6 ft
- 1 x main I/O pre-wired harness, CAN bus configuration
- 1 x current sensor adaptor
- 1 x current sensor in your chosen rating
