The four pin connector that mates with the encoder outlet on a Tesla large drive unit, supplied as a complete kit with pins and seals.
The encoder is how the inverter knows where the rotor is. Without that position signal a permanent magnet motor cannot be commutated at all: the controller has no way to know which windings to energise, and the motor will not turn. It is not a sensor you can leave out.
That makes this small connector one of the parts a whole drive unit installation depends on. You need it either to build a custom harness to the encoder, or to replace a connector damaged on a stock Model S or X loom, which is common on a unit that has been pulled from a car.
It comes as a complete kit, housing, pins and seals, so there is nothing else to find.
Key specifications
| Part | LDUECONNECTOR |
|---|---|
| Type | Encoder connector kit |
| Ways | 4 |
| Supplied with | Pins and seals |
| Fits | Tesla large drive unit encoder outlet, base and performance |
| Weight | 0.06 kg |
Features
- Correct mating half for the large drive unit encoder outlet
- Complete kit: housing, pins and seals
- Fits both base and performance large drive units
- For custom harnesses or repairing a damaged stock loom
Compatibility
For the Tesla large drive unit, base and performance variants, at the encoder outlet on the base of the unit.
We also supply the 23 pin data connector for the large drive unit, which is the other connector commonly damaged during removal.
Screen the encoder cable and keep it away from the phase cables. A position signal corrupted by inverter switching noise produces faults that look mechanical and are not. This is the one loom on a drive unit where routing genuinely matters.
In the box
- 1 x 4 pin connector housing
- Pins and seals to suit
